Best Dive Destinations in Oman

1. Daymaniyat Islands (Muscat)

A protected marine reserve, this chain of nine islands is a diver’s paradise. With crystal-clear water, abundant fish life, and regular sightings of turtles, blacktip reef sharks, and leopard morays, the Daymaniyat Islands are ideal for both recreational and technical dives.

2. Fahal Island

3. Bandar Khayran

Easily accessible from Muscat, this site is famous for its calm conditions, sheltered coves, and macro life. Great for beginner divers or those doing training dives, yet deep enough for advanced certifications.

4. Mirbat (Salalah)

In Oman’s southern Dhofar region, Mirbat boasts a more tropical underwater environment. Expect lush coral coverage, seasonal upwellings, and the occasional encounter with humpback whales during migration season.

5. Lima Rock (Musandam)

A bit more remote, Musandam’s towering fjords and current-rich waters make it ideal for drift dives and technical exploration. The region’s deep channels and dramatic seascape are ideal for advanced and tec-certified divers.

Tips for Diving in Oman

  • Best season: Diving is possible year-round, but the best visibility is typically from April to October. Whale sharks often appear in June–September.

  • Water temperatures: Range from 24°C in winter to 30°C in summer, so a 3–5mm wetsuit is usually sufficient.

  • Currents: Vary by site—check conditions in advance and always dive with a local guide.

  • CCR and Tec support: While not as widespread as in the UAE or Egypt, CCR diving and trimix support is growing in Oman. Bring your own Dive Rite O2ptima CM or similar rebreather, and contact operators in advance for logistics.
